Perfection

tell me people, how often do we
wish so much to be perfect without
realising the subtle yet catastrophic
effects of perfection.

i sure am guilty of such sinful desires
of perfection.

but i had an epiphany, i came upon
the understanding that perfection
isn't really wonderful. it is but
a barrier.

if a being is perfect, it would therefore
mean that nothing is better.
not even himself, he cannot improve,
he cannot become better,
simply because he is already perfect.

to say that something is perfect would
mean that it will always stay that way.
don't we all see that in order for society
to run, we need to keep improving?

we need to set our sights higher than
the current 'best' and that would mean
that nobody is perfect or will be.
so give up your dreams of perfection
and set your sights to growth and
evolution. be far more ambitious
and live for the moment.

Interesting concept, but I think the idea of perfection come from a fixation on hierarchy. The need to be special makes us use language that nominates one as better and another as lessor. If we are all truly equal, there is no need to be special, but just ourselves (an internal (secure), not external (insecure) reference creates our self-identity).

Additionally, if something is not perfect, we must know first that it should be different. But, if things are they way they are, who is to say that they should be different? People who dwell on the concept of perfection miss out on the present nature of things - obsessing over 'should've' and 'could've' beens instead of appreciating and understanding what is taking place. IMO, everything IS perfect and it is our interpretation / attitude that makes it so, just as it is our outlook that creates our potential. By saying everything is perfect, we open ourselves to the possibility of finding the balance in our situation / life, rather than assuming things are imperfect and presuming an inherent imbalance. Everything is maintained in a infinitely fine balance and that is the perfect nature of reality; equilibrium = perfection.

These are just some thoughts I have on the topic - perhaps they are too complicated to distill so quickly.

in your opinion, equilibrium is perfect. however to some, they would love to have the balance tipped and for them to be on the higher end. that is their perfection
