For them or For us?

remember how people used to preach about good deeds?
remember when we did good dids cause we felt like it?
what are we learning nowadays?

schools, telling us CIP is for our leaving cert,
religious groups,
telling us that it is to purify our tainted lives,
to let us lead better and more fulfiled lives,
claiming that the moment you start with them,
you are going to feel the positive change in your life,

so now, we are doing these good deeds,
just so we can gain from them?
just so we will earn some merit to liberate ourselves
or probably have nicer leaving certs to give us a better chance?

yeah, the novelty is worn out..
i have so damned decided not to join these groups
in their "purification" of their karma
or lifting of their spirits,
cause i so believe good deeds will not
NEVER be done so we gain merit.

i believe that it is our heart,
that wants to give, not because there will be someone,
telling me that my life will get better the more i serve.
i just don't believe in that.

P.S just like the word sorry,
good deeds have lost their novelty.
i don't do stuff like that...
